Families for children adoption agency

PRESS RELEASE: Date: 2nd February 2010 - Desperate Plea to Dorset Families

National Press and media eagerly praise and document the good work of ‘celebrities’ who adopt and support children from developing countries in providing these children with caring, loving homes, but what about those needy children waiting for a loving adoptive family here in the UK?

Adoption in the UK is often thought of as a lengthy process of social worker checks and restrictions and the myths that surround it like, “I have to be married’. ‘I have to be young’ “ I can’t be able to have Children’ all too often discourage those families that are so desperately needed. It’s at this time that those children are crying out for Dorset Families to help.

Families for Children is a registered and approved voluntary adoption agency and Charitable trust whose, efforts are concentrated in placing Children from all over the UK in Local Authority care, and specifically those children who are over 5 years old, those with dual heritage, older sibling groups and Children with extra needs with families across Devon, Cornwall and Dorset, and what a lovely place for a child to grow!

Families for Children urgently needs potential adopters to come forward in the Dorset area. The agency plans to launch a recruitment campaign in the area to encourage potential families to talk with them about adoption, its process and its possibilities - putting to bed those common myths.

Dean Banks, Social Worker Practice Manager says “There are currently over 4000 children in the Local Authority Care system in the UK waiting to be adopted. We are looking for ordinary people from a range of backgrounds to come forward. All kinds of people can adopt regardless of marital status, disability, gender, religion or sexual orientation. It doesn’t matter if you own your own home or whether you have had children or not. We are just asking for you to be able to provide and safe and loving home for one of these many children, so please pick up the phone”

In support of their new campaign Families for Children are also looking for a Qualified and experienced Social Worker in Dorset to help these families through assessment, preparation, matching to children, and providing high quality support.

For an informal discussion about adoption and more details please contact Dean Banks on 01364 645480 or email dbanks@familiesforchildren.org.uk
