Local FAMILIES help SMASH the World Record!!
Local FAMILIES have helped Families for Children smash a world record for the number of people taking part in a simultaneous three-legged race.
The events were organised as part of National Family Week at local tourist attractions Crealy Adventure Parks in Exeter and Cornwall, Monkey World Ape rescue Centre in Dorset and Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh. Local dignitaries including our own Vice Patron, Mark Tyler were there to start the races and launch the World Record bid at 3pm.
A Chinese attempt with 160 participants is listed as a Guinness World Record but at Crealy in Exeter alone on Saturday 218 locals tied their legs to a partner's to raise awareness of the charity. In total 386 individuals took part across the 4 venues smashing the Chinese record!
Katey McDonald, marketing co-ordinator for Families for Children, said: "We have to get the event verified with Guinness, but we look to have smashed the record at Devon's Crealy alone.
‘It was a wonderful event and we received so much support, it was incredible. I would like to say a special thank you to all our sponsors and supporters but especially to the Pavey Financial and Insurance Services whose generosity made it possible for these events to take place”
The race took part towards the end of National Family Week, an annual celebration of family life. Organisers have confirmed that over 60 venues took part on Saturday totaling over 1500 pairs of legs! A World record
